Domain privacy: keep your details out of WHOIS

Every domain has a public record of who owns it. Domain privacy replaces your name, address, phone and email in that record with ours, so spammers and scrapers cannot read them.

What domain privacy does

  • Hides your name, address, phone number and email in the public WHOIS record
  • Cuts down spam, scam calls and unwanted offers sent to your contact details
  • Keeps you as the owner: the domain stays registered in your name

Does it cost anything?

Domain privacy is an option you add when you register a domain, for the extensions that allow it. The price shows in your cart before you pay.

Some extensions do not allow privacy at all because their registry publishes or restricts owner details by its own rules. .ae is one of them. Search results and your cart always say whether a domain has privacy and what it costs.

How to get it

  1. Search for your domain

Find the name you want and add it to your cart.

  2. See privacy in the cart

Each domain line says whether privacy is included, optional or not offered for that extension.

  3. Pay and it is switched on

Privacy is set up with the domain when it is registered, where it is included or you chose it.

Protect your next domain

Search for a name and see right away whether privacy is included.

Questions, answered

What is WHOIS?

WHOIS is a public record that shows who registered a domain and how to contact them. Anyone can look it up.

Is hiding my details allowed?

Yes. Privacy services are a normal, legal part of domain registration. When there is a valid legal reason, the registry and the authorities can still get the owner's details.

Does privacy affect my website or email?

No. Your website, email and DNS work exactly as before.

Why does a domain I want not offer privacy?

Some registries, such as the one for .ae, set their own rules for what is published and do not allow privacy services. We say so before you pay.
