Owner details and WHOIS privacy

Who the owner is, what the public can see, and how to change owner details.

Every domain has an owner contact (name, address, email, phone) sent to the registry. You can see it on the domain page under Owner contact. The address you use for new domains is kept in your Profile.

Privacy

Public WHOIS lookups can show the owner details of a domain. Where an extension offers it, ID Protection hides them; we say on the search results and the cart whether it is included free. Some extensions (for example .ae) do not offer it, and publish only what their own rules allow.

Changing the owner

Because the owner is a legal detail held by the registry, changing the owner of a registered domain is done by our team. Open a support request from your account with the domain and the new details; some extensions need extra documents or an approval by email from the old and new owner.
